Harbingers of Spring

29 02 2008

There are the usual suspects — robins, crocuses, pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training, the stocking of the shelves with rose (as in ros-ay, as I haven’t found the blogging accents yet) to name a few. Then there is the annual spring roadshow, where a bunch of French natural winemakers come to New York for a week of tastings, winemakers’ dinners and seminars, and when that’s all done, just having a very good time in NYC.

Take it from me, these are the nicest folks you’re going to meet. They’re real, honest, nice, genuine men and women who are totally comitted to making wines that are as honest as they are. No added sulfites, no fining, no filtration, just the truest expression of the grapes that they have so meticulously grown, nurtured and harvested.

Do yourself a huge favor and go to one of the many events around the city where these guys are going to strut their stuff. I’ve hosted a couple of these events at West Side Wine, and everyone always has a great time. This year it all kicks off at my place on March 7th, with Magali Terrier from Domaine des 2 Anes in Corbiere (the Languedoc) and Nathalie Oudin from Domaine Oudin in Chablis. They’re bunking in at our place, so that means a lot of good wine for us all week! What can I say? We house a lot of homeless winemakers when they come to town. When you’re a winemaker, you can’t be in it for the money, so free lodging is most welcome. And we’re happy to oblige.

Here’s the complete schedule: World Wide Wine
